it was ok
bookshelves: didn-t-finish, listens, england, fiction, waste-of-time

This started out so promisingly, with a skillfully woven prologue that was both allegorical and historical in an almost a Dickensian fashion! But, once I got about halfway through the book, I gave up. I feel bad about dropping it, because it really was not terrible. It’s just that the thin plot lagged so much that the book could have been half the length without sacrificing much of value. I do kind of want to know how it ends, but I don't have the fortitude to plough on. I've heard that the conclusion is rather over-the-top ...

Betsy-Tacy fans will be interested to know that there is a character named Bettina. :)
