I thoroughly enjoyed this latest Julia Quinn book. The storyline was interesting, and the characters were very likeable. I also liked the way the story was so interwoven with the first book from the series, but I believe I would have appreciated this even more if I had read them back to back. The two books take place at the same time, and I remembered some of the same events being told in the previous book from the point of view of the main characters in it, which was very interesting. I believe that reading the two books one after the other would increase enjoyment of both of them.

Thomas Cavendish, Duke of Wyndham, has spent his life first preparing for, and then carrying out the duties of his position. He is thrown off balance when a stranger enters his life who is seemingly both his cousin and the true duke. Although Thomas has often dreamed of escaping his responsibilities, he now feels that he is going to lose everything. He feels that his very identity will be lost, and he doesn't know who he will be if he is not truly the duke. His greatest regret is that he wasted time and never married the woman he was betrothed to in the cradle, Amelia Willoughby. He has been indifferent to her for years, but has recently decided that he likes the intelligent, attractive young lady. Thomas believes that he is no longer worthy of Amelia, so he intends to set her free from her obligations. As Thomas and Amelia come to really know and care for one another, he must come to terms with his new situation before Amelia can convince him that they truly belong together.

This was a very good book in conjunction with the previous one, but I believe it is essential to read them in order. There is such a strong connection between the two books, that it would be difficult to read this one without the background that The Lost Duke of Wyndham provides. This was another great book by Julia Quinn.
