I think what I enjoyed about Chasing Vermeer was the way it approached the mystery solving game (or genre). It gave the reader both verbal and visual clues to follow, allowing for different types of puzzles and problem solving. Both Calder and Petra were very different, and it was interesting that they were both loners in their own way and I enjoyed seeing their friendship develop. The ending was wrapped up very neatly (and I totally called the ‘villain’ about halfway through the book) and I think both boys and girls will be able to relate to the characters. (view spoiler). I think this would probably be a good addition to both public and school libraries because it’s not a typical mystery set-up, and might appeal to those readers who don’t enjoy the more formulaic stuff that’s out there. While I don’t think it will become a classic, it definitely has potential to find readers in either type of library.
