I saw this recently in the Young Adult section of Borders. It was surprising to me - it never struck me as a childish book. Book marketers employ strange logic. There's a sparse, direct logic to the writing, which is to say a sparse direct logic to Pi's thinking, and that honest slow, ordered approach to increasingly absurd and bizzare situations make for an amazingly creative, engaging read.
