Herzgo Alegni is not an interesting villain, and Drizzt doesn't have any cool friends. Having finished the series, I'm most disappointed in the fact that I still have no idea how Alegni got hold of the sword in the first place, or even who the Netherese are (I had to turn to Wikipedia for that).
I know Forgotten Realms is a big place, but I don't think an author should expect his readers to rely on other materials to find this stuff out.
