It didn’t take long for me to see this book is is extremely well-written, humorous, moving and, despite the unfamiliar setting and characters, highly relatable.

The story revolves around events and interactions that are indeed familiar to us all. Further, throughout the book, Mrs. Shipstead showcases her deft ability to describe a scene, draw a character and convey an emotion with the simplest word or phrase that is, at the same time, perfectly suiting and amusingly original. She enabled me to see and feel exactly what she intended me to see and feel.

The book covers a range of human emotions from love and lust to anger and betrayal. It is moving in parts and laugh-out-loud hilarious in others. This is her debut novel, but you would never guess judging by her polished and entertaining prose and her expert story-telling ability.
