One of our SPL scavenger hunt titles. Really solid, if occasionally predictable in a Hollywood sort of way.
A loner geek boy of the future tries to solve the puzzles embedded in the world's main occupation: a sprawling virtual reality that takes most everyone's attention and energy all the time, leaving reality to suffer greatly. If he solves the puzzles, he will be rich beyond imagining, and he may even gain some friends. I was only occasionally puzzled by a reference to the 1980s; younger readers might want to sit close to a search engine....
