I can't help wondering if Deva Fagan's a Dr. Who fan. I'm a pretty new Whovian myself but there were certainly moments in this book that brought the series to mind. The Big Top for example, a pretty large ship to begin with but much bigger on the inside. Remind you of anything? Then there's the Ringmaster. Only known by his title, mysterious past, connected to his ship on some spiritual level, somewhat eccentric ... I could go on. Noticing those similarities were among the best parts of this book. The story itself was fun and breezy, though I really wish we'd learned more about the whole Mandate/Tinker thing. Also the aliens were a little disappointing, and it didn't seen like much time was spent at the actual circus. I enjoyed the heroine and her friends though, and if there's a sequel I'd probably read it. Hopefully it'll involve more backstory, and we'll get to see the Ringmaster regenerate and fight off evil Cybermen.
