Read from August 06 to 09, 2012

Sofi and her four daughters live in the small village of Tome in New Mexico, which -- as is to be expected in tales such as this -- exists under a blanket of mystery that allows occasional miracles to happen. Or do they? Castillo has just the right touch for this charming story, which could easily fall under the weight of its panorama of idiosyncratic characters and bizarre happenings. You can't read this without a smile on your face, even though some of it is quite dark.
