I wanted to like this book, especially after it was talked up so much by Jenn and Kenci.

Alas, liking this book was not to be...

It was a love hate-relationship, mostly hate. This book wanted to tell me the story of a "real" vampire, but mostly the book got bored and decided instead it wanted to talk about ancient Arabic tapestries. Of course to some, the Ottoman empire might be the most awesome thing ever, unfortunately it only seemed to act as the dirt under which a really good vampire story was buried. It felt like the author went to such a great length to make the book seem plausible and "legit" that she forgot she also had to make it those other words like "interesting" or...

Well really the best word I know of to describe this book was ponderous, think Wheel of Time by Robert Jordan only fewer main characters (by about 3 million) and no one got fried by Balefire. Which would've been awesome, Vlad with Balefire.

I'm just sayin'...

Kenci Thank you for reading all 830+ pages of it. ;o)

Angel FINALLY! Someone on my side. I noticed Ricky didn't get a flogging though. I really wanted to like this book too. The Balefire for the end would have been much better then what really happened. Don't get me started.

Jenn I loved this book! So sad.
