Shade is a Warrior Angel sent to Earth, by the Council, to retrieve a special Dust fallen from his wings,to find out how a human, one named Lily, came into it's possession. And by any cost protect any evidence of supernatural beings from Humans. Upon his arrival in the small town he decides to see who this Lily is before approaching her. At first glance his reaction to her startles him and all he can think of is how she would look underneath him. Lily Banner is a lab tech with profound OCD at a soils testing lab and has been given , by her sleezy boss, a vial containing a substance that looks to be ordinary. It's a testing he wants ASAP before all others. Lily hates her job. She doesn't see herself as anything but average and deep down she wants much more than the life that she has and a tall handsome man to share it with.
In comes Shade and immediatly a connection, both of them, are unable to deny. As they try to get to know each other and Shade tries harder to fight against the deep feelings for Lily, and remain loyal to his job, he realizes how hard that will only be in the end. But Lily is much more than what he first realized and what he feels for her can't be denied after their first night together. That's when he knows beyond any shadow of a doubt what he will do, how far he will go to protect her and her friends.
This is a different take on Angels and how we have come to know them. The divisions in their society and the betrayals of one of their own. The main characters Shade and Lily are loveable. Her friends, more like family, are funny, protective and understanding of what she needs. Shade's best friend and mentor Ambrose is beautiful but sad. And Dante, owner of Dante's Circle is one hot man!
I really enjoyed this read and am eager to read the second installment. The plot of the book was carefully thought out and the sex wasn't to bad either. The ups and downs of a realtionship built on lies is hard on any couple, especially ones like Shade and Lily. Will their love survive? Will Lily be able to move past the betrayal of someone she loves? you'll have to read it and find out for yourself.

9.0% ""Lily got out of the car and walked under the awning, careful not to step on any cracks in the pavement." Wow, that is serious OCD."
