This was the book that made me first recognize the difference between a poet and a poet laureate. Kooser is so incredibly adept with his metaphors, and the ends of his poems often smack you between the eyes with their powerful observations and the way they so accurately capture the essences of things in such a profound way.

On this second read, I particularly loved Biker, A Rainy Morning, and Pearl.
