liked it
bookshelves: contemporary, have-a-copy, suspense-and-horror

The pretty cover seduced me into reading a new Finnish book, which I don't do often. I was pleasantly surpised: the book was not quite as dreary and depressing as many Finnish books (and movies) can be. Not to get carried away though, the author did include some domestic violence, alcohol abuse and general misery. We wouldn't want the reader to think happy thoughts, now would we?

Sarcasm aside, I thought this book was OK. I could have done without the family drama, but I enjoyed the horror elements. I especially liked how the author used Finnish folklore and forrest as a basis for her paranormal world. There was plenty of creepy in the story, even if I wasn't exactly hiding under my bed.

It looks like the author's next book is being published this autumn. I might have to read it, especially if it's a sequal.
