I absolutely love the way Anne Tyler can paint such a vivid picture with words. Her clarity and detail are so impressive. She clearly has an impeccable understanding and appreciation for human nature. This book was definitely centred around the characters and their development through the years. There really didn't seem to be too much in the way of plot development and I do appreciate that this might just be the style of the author. It might be for that reason that I took longer than usual to get through this book. There wasn't a lot happening at any given time that drew me back with a vengeance the way some books do. Just a personal preference, I prefer chapters which are a little shorter and more manageable to get through in one sitting.

All that being said, I still had a great appreciation for this book and Anne Taylor's incredible talent.
