I can honestly say that this is one of the best fantasies I have read in a very long time. Having just read the Patrick Rothfuss' Name of the Wind and Wise Man's Fear, I was certain that happening upon another fantasy of such wondrous writing and characters would be some time in coming. Fortunately however, that was not the case at all. I stumbled upon this epic (in every sense of the word) novel by Anthony Ryan and was completely and totally enamored from the very beginning. Ryan captivated me with his prose and his characters. I tried to read it slow, to savor it because I know the second book will be a while in coming, but my efforts proved useless. Blood Song is phenomenal, filled with intrigue, politics, religion, warfare, magic and Vaelin Al Sorna is a tremendous creation of character.
