I love this alternate perspective on the Alice in Wonderland story. This second in the trilogy was just as inventive, exciting and entertaining as the first!

New Queen Alyss Heart has finally bested her mad aunt Redd to take the throne in Wonderland, and is trying to undo all the carnage, pain and destruction Redd's rule created.

Unfortunately, Redd isn't giving up, and has gone through the Pool of Tears to earth looking for a new army to help her re-take Wonderland's throne.

Then there's evil King Arch, who doesn't think women are fit for anything other than being his wives, and certainly not ruling kingdoms! So he'd like to take over Wonderland too.

Not to mention the ranking families of Diamonds, Clubs and Spades, whom Alyss doubts she can trust to be loyal to the Queendom despite their protestations of loyalty.

All this means Alyss has to be continually on guard, with her small group of loyal supporters at her side as she defends her Queendom.

The author has really created a fully-realized, thoroughly detailed, and crazy-clever world that takes the original story of Alice in Wonderland and jacks it up to maximum expansion, with creative twists and unique developments to deliver a story full of non-stop thrills and drama. Everything about this story is creative and clever and totally fascinating!

I can't wait to read the final chapter of Alyss and Redd's story in the third installment of the series. If you loved the Alice in Wonderland story and characters, but would enjoy a more edgy, grown-up perspective on the original, you may enjoy this series. But do start at the beginning with book 1 - The Looking Glass Wars.
