I really wanted to like this more. Maybe I'm burnt out on the insta-mate concept.

We have Gracie and the four men from New York that find her in the sewers after Earth has been attacked by an alien force. This group is known as the "Freedom Five" and they form a part of Earth's resistance against the invading aliens. Gracie is their John Connor, she is the voice of the people. The story of these men is actually the story that I wanted to read, they were fascinating to me. Sadly though, this was not meant to be.

I really, really liked the fleeting glimpse of the Freedom Five. I wish that Gracie could have stayed on Earth and that she and her resistance fighters could have their story told there rather than separating them. As it is this is an okay sci-fi romance with similar insta-mate tropes to others I've read. If I could have liked Gracie or Kordon perhaps the story would have resonated more with me.
