It's a pitty that Mr Lanchester didn't have a story to tell because, in my opinion, he is a good writer. The book could easily be cut by half. There are too many characters and for most of them their stories are very uninteresting. Mr Lanchester tried to put together all the different actors in London's life and decided to connect them tenously through their relation, one way or another, to Peepy street. It doesn't work. The use of misterious messages sent to all of them by an unknown character also fails to unify the story, it's simply not misterious or menacing enough; not to mention that the resolution of this thread of the story is laughable. My suggestion to Mr Lanchester is pick a story a say it well and stop trying to be everything to everybody for the purpose of selling books. Wht a shame it could have been good.
