I think that this is P. D. James first novel, at least her first Cordelia Gray mystery. This was written in 1977, which I enjoyed because I usually don't pick up anything from the 1970's. James adds some fun "fashion detail" of the 1970's as well. I really liked her literary style. She has a great way with words. The thing I did not like about the book was something about Cordelia herself. She is smart, resourceful, and brave, but she seems to be able to justify a lot of lying, even perjury! And she totally got away with it! I somehow don't think that is right, no matter what the circumstances. I like Gray's writing so much that I will probably read another Gray mystery anyway.
