Glad you liked it.

Jesse yeah, it started slow, but it picked up speed - not velocity, but a type of engagement. it reminded me in ways of "middlesex" (although "emigrants" was written a full decade before) i like how the novellas all share similar themes and how the first and forth ones even overlap. i also enjoyed the subtle hints of nabokov that showed up in each novella: he is, after all, the most famous literary emigrant.

so are all of sebald's works this good?

That's perfect phrasing, its picking up speak by "a type of engagement." That's exactly what the book did for me, and the ending brought it all together perfectly. I hear all of his works are that good, but I've not yet read another, so I don't know.

Adam "The Rings of Saturn" is excellent.
