Whew! What an intense read. This fifth book of the saga is not as tightly strucured as the preceding four. However, the demand it makes on the reader is to keep all of the data from those preceding four volumes in the forefront of his or her mind, as one does not know when a reference will be made to an event or a place, or a character appear, from anywhere in the other books. I did not find this to be so much the case in reading books one through four, but this fifth installment certainly required keen powers of recall. Mr. Martin continues to dazzle with his writing; I am continually amazed at his ability to include such a wealth of detail in so massive a work. There is now much to ponder as we await the appearance of volume six. And there is no way, in this reader's opinion, to formulate any theory as to the story's eventual end. Patience is now required.
