This book dovetails pretty nicely with the first book from the New Crobuzon milieu, Perdido Street Station. Specifically, the events of the first book are the catalyst for the main character's involvement in the events of this book. Again, as with Perdido Street Station, Mieville has created a world that is very richly detailed, and several plots to follow within the main plot of this book. I'd say that overall I didn't enjoy this book quite as much as the first, but it was a good book nonetheless and if you liked the first book, you'll certainly like this one. It has many of the same problems as the first book, although I think the main character was more fleshed out in this book, so there was some improvement there. The writing style is largely the same; China Mieville has a very lush style of writing, and a rich command of the English language.

As with the first book, I'd recommend this to any fan of sci-fi or fantasy, or anybody that enjoys fast-paced books.
