I have read a number of books, from varying perspectives, about the connections between sexuality and spirituality, but this particular book engaged in something more explicit than any I had read before. Boisvert grew up a Roman Catholic in Quebec and attended seminary as a young man. Early in his life he was captivated by various saints, and as an adult reflects on the erotic nature of that captivation. He discusses a variety of saints and uses each one to explore various topics of Christian devotion, including routine topics like communion and prayer. But he also very explicitly shares his erotic fantasies.

He wants to claim fantasizing as a spiritual practice, an act of sanctity. This is part of his queering of the tradition -- an imaginative, playful engagement. At times his discussions were actually hot, which is not something I've ever encountered in a book of theology or spirituality before.

There are also interesting discussions of queer theory and topics of relevance to gay men and their sexuality.

I would only recommend this book to gay men, and particularly those with a Catholic background (unlike myself), who are looking for uniquely gay spiritual resources.
