The Known World by Edward P. Jones
My favorite book of all time. The only book I have ever read that I started again as soon as I finished. Great characters, each very flawed and yet very sympathetic. A bewildering premise...a plantation-owning black family...and an amazing ending. But, it's so good you don't want it to end. You miss the people you've come to know.
