Beth learns to live without her beloved husband, Archer Newton. Her children, twins Winnie and Garrett have a harder time accepting their mother as sole parent in addition to the loss. Beth takes her remaining family (along with the child of her husband's murderous client, Marcus) to Nantucket to her childhood summer home to find some normalcy. Instead she finds an old love, the children find their first loves and they each grapple with the notion of leaving Nantucket and returning to their NYC apartment without their father (lost in a plane crash the prior March). They leave the island more self-aware, with a greater sense of love and return the following March for a new addition, Archer Newton, Garrett's son from his "first time" with Nantucket native Piper, daughter of Beth's first love David.
