A breathtaking story of class, privilege and personal integrity, featuring one of the strongest female literary characters that I've had the pleasure to read about in quite some time. This is a novel that was far more powerful and poignant than I expected it to be...and its evocation of late 1930s New York City is sumptuous & electric.
