The cult of the teenage girl, cheerleader version. With a dash of Heathers, and a lot more vitriol. I liked this book enough to finish it (has to be really bad for me not to finish), but I didn't really "like" it. I couldn't identify with any of the characters, nor did I find any of the characters likeable. I do feel it was well-written, I just didn't personally enjoy it. It gave me the feeling all the way through that things were not going to turn out well, for anyone. I did appreciate the sense of "who's playing who" throughtout, and there were a few plot twists that kept it interesting.

Shortly after reading this, I was at my neighborhood pool and watched several middle school girls practicing their cheer stunts in the water. They were fighting over who got to be the "flyer" and who would be the "base", counting off, elevatoring the girl up. They were quite serious about it all, and I thought, here's the new wave of cheer royalty, could be the next Addy and Beth and RiRi. Scary.
