This Joe Picket novel is really interesting because it really lets us into the minds of the bad guys. After they are introduced as some kind of personification of evil, their point of view gets more and more explication as the narrative progresses. I also always like the narrative strategy of setting up our hero in a dangerous, mysterious situation and then shifting back and forth between him and the people at home. Nate's and Joe's friendship also continues its development.
