it was amazing

This is the first Franzen novel I've read, and I was blown away by his writing. He manages to be verbose and yet concise, readable yet dense, and seems to be able to describe something in such a precise manner that you immediately understand what he means.

The novel itself is frighteningly true to life. There were times where I felt wildly depressed reading about the members of this family and how each of them tries their best but seems to be fatally flawed. Franzen's an expert at exploring interactions and writes such believable characters that it's hard not to care for them, despite their occasionally awful decisions.
