I loved this book. It made me feel everything I expect an exceptional book to do: anger, sorrow, hope, and joy.
When 30 year old spinster, Ivorie, makes up her mind to ride up to the hills on the back of a mule in the pouring rain to rescue a badly abused little boy, no one knows what she is up to. When she brings that little boy home, no one expects Ivorie to keep him and raise him as her own and when it becomes apparent that that is exactly what she is going to do, it divides the town and it especially annoys the man she has come to hope to have a future with.
Ivorie's determination and strength, her faith and her deep love for the little boy she rescued kept me turning pages to finish this book in record time...only to leave me wanting more. That's the sign of a good book!
