really liked it
bookshelves: picture-book, historical-fiction

Reading Level: intermediate

This is the story of a struggling jazz musician.

The illustrations help the reader to actually feel the music. The black, white, and gray in the pictures bring out the style of the time when jazz music was coming of age.

This could be a good book to use when beginning a study on types of music.

Robyn Simmons I think it is super important to incorporate the arts into the classroom environment. It helps to inspire and encourage students to dream big. I like the fact that this story has black and white pictures, because it helps to express the setting and the feel for the story.
