I won this book through the Goodreads First Reads program. I am really glad that I had the opportunity to read this book because I have never read any of the author's books. Now, I'm a fan.

The book is really beautifully written. I am definitely moved by the book. This book focuses on this character Xenia through her cousin, Dasha's perspective. It's in the first person narration and I think that was a smart move, really. I believe that was how I got engrossed in the novel. Now, I could finish this in one sitting but unfortunately, I have unrealistic reality dragging me from this wonderful novel. I usually will donate books to shelters or libraries after reading the book so I can share it with other people, but I can't donate this one. It's mine to keep.

As I read the book, I figure that Xenia is some sort of a prophet even though it wasn't known until later. When one of her beloved people passed away, I wanted to wail along with Xenia. I never imagine how grievous a person can be like she was. She started to do things out of nature - I won't tell, you will have to read it. And Dasha is watching all this. I should be feeling what Dasha feels, but it's almost like I'm in Xenia's shoes for the most part. Xenia definitely has an impact on how Dasha will perceive the life and I'm glad for it. Dasha desperately wants to be there but Xenia doesn't want anything anymore.

Again, it is beautifully written by the author. The words she weaved into a story are superb. I definitely plan to look up other stories that she has written so I can try to read it all. Amazing book.
