Kind of painful and wondrous at the same time. Murdoch combines mythic archetypes with too-real, too-individual moments of failure, weakness, and defeat to create a spellbinding story. And if you're at all a foodie you'll LOVE how specifically she writes about his food. Sad & beautiful & not as offputtingly symbolic as "The Bell."
