I read some reviews that said Darkness Falls actually didn't match up to the level of Immortal Beloved, but I thought that it was just as good. In fact, I like the tone of Nastasya's inner voice better in this installment of the series. She was witty and sarcastic in a slightly self-deprecating way, (the kind of attitude I simply can't resist reading about), if a little too self-loathing at times. I get that she doesn't think she deserves saving, but she let that blind herself to the possibilities with Reyn. Disappointingly, Ms.Tiernan doesn't bless us with any more progress in the long, long road of Nas and Reyn's relationship until the very end, when suddenly its like... bham! "Lets get together because neither of us are evil after all!"

I didn't understand why Nas would simply go back with Incy to her old life, after we've been treated page after page of how utterly uncaring of the consequences of their actions her friends are, both in the first and second book. How could expensive clothes and a new haircut make her forget that, even if only for a few days?

Still, this book was an enjoyable read, worth concentrating on, and I definitely recommend it to people who liked the first book. Just be braced for the suckiness of the romance factor in it.

Solid three stars.
