I wanted to hate this book! But, Dekker did impress me with his ability to tell a decent story. However, his thematic exploration about good vs. evil is quite shallow. His Christian Fundamentalism shines through with the Lucifer analogies. To his credit, he isn't really preachy.

A thriller writer needs to get his or her readers to be willing to suspend disbelief long enough to go for the ride. Some points of the story I found myself coming back to reality shaking my head. The plot tactics wore a little thin.

Overall, it is not completely horrible and it has fun moments. I would read another Dekker. I hope he develops his themes a little more deeply as he progresses, because there is no real meat to it here.

Cecelia I was confused by the end of the story, but the novel did scare me...a lot! I had nightmares!

Éilís Of course he's not preachy. If you are an athiest and reading this, he slowly lures you in, like House, and shows you what you're missing without 'shoving' it down people's throats. I admit so far Skin isn't as great as house but you must give im credit at the least for his wild imagination and skills.
