This is a very beautiful novel. I read where Ekaterina Sedia was redefining the genre of sci-fi / fantasy and that is an understatement. The themes of science and progress vs. tradition, and the isolation and and marginilizing of classes of people by society at large hit home. Our heroine, Mattie, maybe a clockwork woman made of metal, springs, gears and porcelain but you will fall in love with her and she will break your heart.
