It took me a long time to read this, in part because the closer I got to the end, the less I wanted it to come to its inevitable conclusion. The way that Kearns Goodwin weaves the tale of these men -- particularly when she addresses the working and personal relationships of Lincoln, Seward, and Stanton -- makes for interesting, captivating reading.

Sonya It sounds very good. I think I was a bit put off by it because it's been mentioned so often in relation to Obama's cabinet choices, but that's not very fair to the book.

Jenn I bought it before he started making his cabinet selections, but on the strength of wanting something Lincoln-related to read because I'd been hearing those comparisons, and... Kearns Goodwin, I can't turn down.

Also, hee, it was $8 at Powell's.
