The relevance of this story, thirty-six years later, is remarkable. George McGovern's campaign for president hinged entirely on youth, minority and 'new' voters in 1972. It also focussed on a message of changing the country's political expectations... Sound familiar?
This should be mandatory reading for anyone that wants a non-high-school-text-book look into America's fucked-up political process.
Also, not to be repetitive but, Hunter S. Thompson was a fucking god.
