I've always loved "Diary of a Young Girl" and I have been meaning to read this for ages, but I had no idea how great it truely was. From Anne's diary I assumed Miep was shy, perhaps because her name sounded so much like "meek." Meip was anything but shy. She and her husband did everything that they possibly could, not just for the Frank family but for all the persecuted peoples of the time, from housing a young man who refused to sign a German aligence agreement to attend college to her husband who was part of an underground resistance movement. She refuses to call herself a hero but someone who doesn't think of themselves as times of trials but of assisting others, is the true definition ofa hero. The story of the amazing fighter should be recognized as not just a footnote in the Anne Frank story. It was great to see "the annex" from the outside.
