Beverly Cleary has a rare talent for capturing the humor and poignancy of modern life so well. This book is almost 40 years old, and it still holds up. Ramona returns with her antics, but she has matured with each book and the themes that Cleary explores mature a bit too. In this entry in the Ramona series, her father loses his job and deals with quitting smoking after being pressured by Beezus and Ramona. This book deserves its place in the classics of children's literature.
