The first time you share tea with a Balti, you are a stranger, the second time, you are an honored guest. The third time you become family."
An accomplished mountain climber, Mortenson attempted K2 only to become lost and ill in the descent, found by his guide and taken to a small village where he was nursed back to health over the course of many weeks. To express his gratitude Greg promised to return to the Pakistani village with a school for girls. It took years. This story is absorbing, inspiring and compelling. In some areas the writing is choppy- but the story shines a blazing light into a great and noble heart.
Mortenson’s message is powerful and essential. Wonderful and inspiring story.
