The plot about bratty rich English college students between Charles and Sebastian starts out soap-opera intriguing but ends up falling flat. The story and dialogue throughout the entire book reflects bourgeois malaise- no character really achieves much satisfaction or depth in their lives. This theme is more interesting to analyze than to read.
