An interesting, reimagined Batman universe for a modern audience. Here, Batman is barely a vigilante, let alone a superhero. Rather, he's a sloppy, unfocused youth attempting to get revenge for the death of his parents. The most interesting change to the Batman mythos comes in the form of Alfred. As opposed to a frail, old and stuffy butler, he's a toughened marine veteran and an unwilling father figure to Bruce. Indeed, he knows what he's doing more than Batman in this take on the classic story. There are a few other intriguing changes that will probably take their toll in the continued future of this universe. Harvey Dent, for example (who becomes Two-Face in the classic mythos), has a twin sister. Also, Bruce's mother is formerly of the Arkham family, which firmly connects Batman to his modern psychological portrayals, and this will likely have a profound thematic impact in future. All in all, a great, interesting title.
