Eh. A weird story about mermaids and the magic of them. I didn't particularly care nor dislike the story. The supernatural elements were bizarre and not really making sense. Some of the items were random things that were holding ghosts to the earth. And the romance... I can see why Hester was in love with Ezra but the fact she had someone else's soul? and how she so magically figured out she couldn't have children? meeeehhhhhhh the whole way for not being believable. The peter thing is never resolved (I want concrete romance in my ya) and I felt like the book ended a little too soon but I guess the author ran out of steam after the huge climax.
Other than the few negatives, I was never bored while reading, the mystery was enticing enough for me to neither want to stop reading/ nor skip to the end, and a lot of it is very cleverly hidden. That being said, would not reread.
