This is a hard book to describe, as the plot is complex and the narrator not wholly likeable. It's about a supposedly "straight" teenager with a girlfriend who starts having sex with his gay friend, Nathan, too. As his relationship with his girlfriend drifts apart, he starts falling for Nathan. Although he kind of cheats on both of them as well. And they probably cheat on him. The whole thing gets really messed up. Yet it's really readable and John (the cheater who ought to be shot) overcomes his conceitedness and self-absorption to intervene when a friend reveals something really horrible. The happy ending seems a little pat, the character of Mary is unfortunately a cipher, and I'm not sure John quite deserved such a happy ending, but there you have it...if reading about cheating, rape, or child molestation disturb you, better avoid this book.
