really liked it

I finally had the chance to read this before the movie was released and WHY DID I WAIT SO LONG. I was sucker-punched half-way through the book (probably because I had made some assumptions about the plot after watching the trailer of the movie) and that right there deserved 5 stars. Then came the denouement and I had to subtract 1 star. I’ve read the author’s comments about the ending and can see her point that no other ending could have been plausible or satisfying without compromising the integrity of the characters, BUT STILL. So, I’m differentiating here on how I understand and agree that the ending is fitting for these 2 people, but also how I still kinda hate it because it goes against my sense of justice. I want some moral comeuppance! But see, that’s against me and not the brilliance of the author. Her “cool girls” speech is one of the most incisive things I’ve ever read. Brava.
