Blood Song is the first book in the Blood Singer series by Cat Adams (C.T. Adams and Cathy Clamp). There are two other books in the series: Siren Song and Demon Song.

Celia Graves is a bodyguard, but she soon finds out that she is the one in need of protection. Blood Song is an urban fantasy set in a world like ours except one in which vampires are not considered sexy or sparkly. They are vicious creatures you are smart to fear. Fortunately they have the same weaknesses we have come to know and love. They can’t come out in the day, they can’t step foot in a church, and holy water causes them to sizzle.

So what happens when you are bit by a vampire but not turned? Celia Graves finds out as early on in the book she is attacked and awakens to find herself labeled an “abomination.” Half vampire and half human. I liked the flow of this book because there was never any time to worry about what would happen next, it just did. There were plenty of light-hearted moments with Celia trying to lather on SPF 50 to keep from frying in the sun and some sexy moments with her ex-mage boyfriend Bruno.

The storyline focuses mainly on Celia and the changes she is going through. I liked Celia and the no-nonsense way she dealt with her ever-changing reality. That said she still wasn’t too tough to cry. In the end you are thrown another twist that sets up the second book which I have already purchased and put on the top of my TBR pile.
