I am glad I encountered this book. It wasn't what I was looking for, but I can see it's value for others. It was a bit too academic for where I am at right now. It was an excellent introduction to the genre, and the story line-up was well thought out and representative. That is if you wanted to know a lot about steampunk. If you don't want to know a great deal about steampunk, and aren't looking to lay an excellent foundation in the greats of this (no longer active - according to the intro) genre I recommend looking elsewhere.

Perhaps you are like me. Looking for a China M. fix. A quick shot of the creepy crawly excitement and eeewww you thought this anthology would have in spades. Sadly it is not that, but it does have some excellent short stories that do scratch the itch. They are, however, scattered lightly throughout the anthology. Ultimately, I punched gaslight into a search engine and discovered what I wanted was a setting not an message.
