The Year of Magical Thinking by Joan Didion
The author's husband drops dead on page one and the rest of the book deals with how she finds her life so completely changed in an instant. The writing is as magical as the title and I found myself jotting down her phrases to remember them, they were so perfectly written. It is the first book I even finished, held it in my hands like a friend, then opened and began to read again.
