Pursuit of Honor (Mitch Rapp, #12)
by Vince Flynn (Goodreads Author)
by Vince Flynn (Goodreads Author)
I have been putting off reading Flynn because I knew going into it that he and I are on different ends of the political spectrum, but I finally gave in.
Here is what I learned, and let me start with the negative: In terms of modern spy thriller authors, I would not put him in the same class as Daniel Silva, though I'm sure he'll remain more popular in this country than Silva since Mitch Rapp is an American, while Gabriel Allon is an Israeli spy. I think Silva is a much better writer in terms og actual writing ability/language usage, and the depth of character seems more developed in Silba's character. I also think Silva does a much better job of researching his work. Finally, there was a section in the book where Rapp is testifying in front of Congress, and he goes off on a tangent about abortion. It just seemed like a meaningless way for Flynn to share his view on the topic.
All that being said, I do plan on going back to the start and reading the novels in order, or at least starting too. Vince Flynn does have the ability to tell a fast-paced, interesting story...at the end of each chapter, I did find myself wanting to know what happens next.
